Honda Considers Acura FIA WEC Hypercar Entry and Customer Program Expansion
Acura's expansion into WEC Hypercar and customer programs appears increasingly likely as Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) shows growing interest in both initiatives.
HRC US President David Salters confirms active evaluation of WEC entry is underway, citing the series' strong growth and the allure of Le Mans. This marks a significant shift from the company's position a year ago when Formula 1 commitments were prioritized.

Key developments:
- WEC's Hypercar class is expanding, with 18 current entries and expected growth beyond 20 cars
- Honda recognizes the series' strong health and believes their ARX-06 would be competitive
- Economic viability remains the primary consideration for WEC entry
Regarding customer programs, HRC US expresses openness to supplying ARX-06 cars to private teams, joining Porsche as potential customer car providers. Salters emphasizes several key points for potential customer programs:
- Cars must be economically sustainable for both parties
- Support systems would be provided to customers
- Active discussions are ongoing to reduce costs
- Customer cars must maintain competitive potential
Currently, only Porsche offers customer cars in the category, with JDC-Miller and Proton as active private teams in 2025. Lamborghini is also planning customer-focused programs with its SC63 project.
The potential expansion aligns with Acura's broader racing strategy, with Salters noting that any Acura victory - whether factory or customer - benefits the brand's racing presence in endurance competition.
