Historic Spa F1 Circuit Secures Future with Rotating Calendar Deal Through 2031
Formula 1 has secured a new multi-year contract extension with the Belgian Grand Prix, introducing a rotational race format starting from 2026. The iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit will host four races over six years, with gaps in 2028 and 2030.

The new agreement extends through 2031, allowing other European venues to fill the calendar slots during Spa's off years. This decision reflects F1's strategy to accommodate increasing demand from potential host venues while preserving historic tracks.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the circuit's historical significance, noting that Spa was part of F1's inaugural 1950 championship. Recent facility improvements and enhanced fan experience have reinforced the track's position as one of the world's premier racing venues.
Pierre-Yves Jeholet, vice president of the Walloon Government, highlighted the economic benefits for both Wallonia and Belgium. The long-term agreement provides stability for circuit planning and infrastructure development.
While the replacement venues for 2028 and 2030 remain unconfirmed, Zandvoort has announced it will conclude its F1 hosting duties after the 2026 season, eliminating it as a potential rotation option.
The rotational format represents a new approach to F1's calendar management, balancing traditional venues with new markets while maintaining the sport's heritage at iconic circuits like Spa-Francorchamps.
