Harrison Burton's departure from Wood Brothers Racing marks a significant moment filled with mixed emotions, particularly after securing the team's historic 100th victory at Daytona International Speedway.

"Obviously, I wanted to do more and wanted to do more sooner," Burton reflected. "I really think if I run the way I did the last half of this season earlier, I keep my job."

Burton's tenure with the No. 21 team will conclude as Josh Berry takes over in 2025. Despite the change, Burton achieved his primary goal of winning a Cup race for the Wood Brothers, accomplishing this through a dramatic last-lap pass at Daytona that also secured a playoff spot.

His 2024 season statistics include:

  • 16th in championship standings
  • Average finish of 25.7
  • 7 DNFs
  • 18 lead lap finishes in 36 races
  • 2 top-10 finishes, including the Daytona win

At 24 years old, Burton transitions to AM Racing in the Xfinity Series, where he'll drive their flagship entry with technical support from Haas Factory Team. Despite the step back, Burton remains confident about his future in Cup racing.

"I'm super confident in myself and what I can do. I know that in the right circumstance, I can be a Cup level driver," Burton stated, drawing inspiration from drivers like Cole Custer and Dale Jarrett who successfully returned to Cup competition after similar career moves.

Burton's three-year Cup Series career with Wood Brothers Racing concludes with six total top-10 finishes, following his earlier success in the Xfinity Series where he secured four wins in two seasons.
