GM, Pilot and EVgo Team Up for Major EV Charging Network at Convenience Stores
General Motors announced a significant expansion of EV charging infrastructure through partnerships with Pilot Company and EVgo. The initiative aims to build a coast-to-coast network of 2,000 DC fast charging stalls at up to 500 Pilot and Flying J travel centers across the United States.
This network will feature numerous high-power fast charging stations capable of delivering up to 350kW, enabling drivers to add up to 200 miles of range in just 30 minutes. The stations will be powered by EVgo's eXtend charging infrastructure and operated by Pilot Company.
Key features of the charging network include:
- Premium amenities like Wi-Fi, restrooms, and food services
- 24/7 access with onsite staff
- Well-lit canopies and pull-through charging stalls
- Integration with GM vehicle apps for seamless charging
- Compatibility with most EV brands
The rollout aligns with growing consumer demand, as 95% of U.S. fuel retailers are either offering or planning to offer EV charging stations, according to Boston Consulting Group's 2022 study. Additionally, 70% of retailers plan to expand their charging networks in coming years.
Installation will begin in 2023, prioritizing major highway corridors to facilitate long-distance travel. The initiative represents a significant step toward making EV charging more accessible and convenient for American drivers.
