Ex-FIA Senior Steward Mayer Slams Ben Sulayem Over Text Message Dismissal
Following his recent dismissal from the FIA, Tim Mayer has criticized Mohammed Ben Sulayem's leadership approach. Mayer, a senior steward and U.S. championships organizer, was terminated via text message after representing COTA organizers in a successful right of review regarding track invasion regulations.

The dismissal adds to a growing list of high-profile departures from the FIA, including:
- Formula 2 deputy race director Janette Tan
- Former F1 race director Niels Wittich
- Compliance officer Paulo Basarri
- CEO Natalie Robyn
- Sporting director Steve Nielsen
- Single-seater technical director Tim Goss
- Women in motorsport president Deborah Mayer
Rui Marques, the newly appointed F1 race director, will now handle responsibilities across F1, F2, and F1 Academy in Qatar.
The situation has raised concerns among drivers, with George Russell expressing worry about the lack of transparency and stability within the governing body. Russell emphasized that constantly changing personnel creates challenges for both the organization and teams, particularly when implementing and interpreting rules consistently.
"They're literally running out of people to do those jobs," Mayer noted, highlighting the scarcity of FIA-certified 'platinum-level' race directors and the demanding nature of these positions.
These departures represent a significant shift in FIA's organizational structure, with growing concerns about the governing body's stability and decision-making processes in Formula 1's administration.
