
David Wilson, Retiring TRD President, Honored with Prestigious Bill France Award
David Wilson received the prestigious Bill France Award for Excellence during the NASCAR Awards celebration in Charlotte, marking a significant milestone in his 35-year career with Toyota.

As the outgoing president of Toyota Racing Development (TRD), Wilson has led the organization to numerous achievements during his 11-year tenure as president, including:
- 3 Cup Series driver championships
- 3 manufacturer championships
- 3 Daytona 500 victories
- 7 Craftsman Truck Series manufacturer championships
- 4 Truck Series driver championships
- 1 Xfinity Series manufacturer championship
- 3 Xfinity Series driver championships
The award, presented by NASCAR chairman Jim France, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport and is not given annually. Wilson becomes the 29th recipient of this honor.
Under Wilson's leadership, Toyota has transformed from being the first foreign manufacturer to compete in Cup Series since the 1950s to becoming an integral part of NASCAR. His strategic approach focused on earning respect and making positive contributions to the sport's development.
Wilson, who will retire on December 16, expressed his humility and gratitude upon receiving the award, crediting his team's support throughout his journey. "On my very best day I am simply a reflection of a wonderful team that's supported me, trusted me, and empowered me to serve," Wilson stated during his emotional acceptance speech.
His legacy includes not only competitive success but also helping to break down barriers for foreign manufacturers in NASCAR, contributing to the sport's growth and evolution during his tenure.
