Emmett Hahn, Chili Bowl co-founder and promoter, explained that this decision aims to provide optimal racing conditions and enhance the spectator experience. The change came after consultations with racing professionals, including David Gravel.

The 55-lap format, originally implemented in 2012 to honor the late Donnie Ray Crawford, will continue at the Smiley's Racing Products Tulsa Shootout in the Hyper Racing Non-Wing Outlaw feature. Matt Ward, director of operations for both events, emphasized the importance of maintaining Crawford's legacy in the sport.
