Castroneves to Make NASCAR Debut in Trackhouse Project 91 at Daytona 500
Helio Castroneves will make his NASCAR debut in the 2024 Daytona 500, driving Trackhouse Racing's Project 91 entry. The four-time Indianapolis 500 winner will need to qualify for the 40-car field through single-car qualifying or The Duel qualifying race.

The 49-year-old racing veteran will join teammates Ross Chastain, Shane van Gisbergen, and Daniel Suarez, with Darian Grubb serving as crew chief. Wendy's will sponsor the entry.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would enter a NASCAR race and certainly not the Daytona 500 with a team like Trackhouse Racing," Castroneves said. "This is an opportunity that nobody in their right mind could ever turn down."
Trackhouse's Project 91 program, which debuted in 2022 with Kimi Raikkonen at Watkins Glen, aims to bring international talent to NASCAR. The program achieved success in 2023 when van Gisbergen won on the streets of Chicago in his debut race.
Castroneves brings impressive credentials to NASCAR:
- Four Indianapolis 500 victories
- 30 career IndyCar wins
- Three-time Rolex 24 At Daytona winner
- Experience in IROC Series (2002-2005)
- Competition in Supercars and Brazilian stock car racing
With this attempt, Castroneves aims to join Mario Andretti and A.J. Foyt as the only drivers to win both the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500. The 2024 Daytona 500 takes place on February 16.
