Byron Claims Dramatic Last-Gasp Pole Position at Phoenix Cup Series

William Byron secured the NASCAR Cup Series pole position at Phoenix Raceway with a dramatic final qualifying lap of 133.680mph (26.930s). Despite describing his lap as "ragged" and "sideways," the Hendrick Motorsports driver claimed his 14th career pole and first at Phoenix.

Joey Logano will start second after posting a 133.195mph (27.028s) lap, while Carson Hocevar qualified third at 27.043s. Josh Berry and Erik Jones rounded out the top five.

  • Denny Hamlin: 10th

Spire Motorsports had an impressive showing with all three drivers (Hocevar, McDowell, and Haley) qualifying in the top 10.
