Katherine Legge approaches her NASCAR Cup Series debut at Phoenix Raceway with measured expectations and a clear strategy. The race marks her first appearance on a one-mile oval in NASCAR competition, having previously only experienced Richmond's shorter 0.750-mile track in the Xfinity Series.

Her primary goals are straightforward: complete all 312 laps while avoiding mistakes and showing respect to fellow competitors. "I want to do a good job minimizing mistakes," Legge stated. "I want to stay out of trouble, show respect, and prove that I belong."

Competing with Live Fast Motorsports, a part-time single-car team owned by B.J. and Jessica McLeod, Legge acknowledges the realistic limitations of her equipment. "If I finish anything but last, it would be a win for us," she admits, citing her limited experience and the team's developmental status.

The opportunity came together rapidly, within just 10 days. While Legge would have preferred debuting at Circuit of The Americas' road course, NASCAR approved her for Phoenix given its shorter oval configuration. Her preparation included simulator work with Chevrolet and pit stop practice at Hendrick Motorsports, with additional support from Richard Childress Racing and Kaulig Racing.

Despite hoping to maintain a low profile for her debut, Legge's timing coincidentally aligns with International Women's Day celebrations. "I'm going to fly under the radar for my first Cup race," she initially planned, before realizing the significance of the timing: "There is no way I'm flying under radar."
