Ryan Blaney delivered an impressive performance at the Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, finishing second after starting last in the 23-car field. Despite the challenging quarter-mile track, Blaney methodically worked his way through the pack, reaching 10th place before the halfway break.

The Team Penske driver started from the back after taking a provisional entry, following issues with their water cooler and radiator that forced changes before the Last Chance Qualifying race. Despite these setbacks, Blaney's strategic driving saw him advance to second position with 50 laps remaining.

In the final stint after the lap 120 restart, Blaney closed in on race winner Chase Elliott but couldn't complete the pass. Tire management became crucial, with Blaney eventually wearing out his right-rear tire in his pursuit of the lead.

"I got to 10th before the break and got to the top five relatively quick," Blaney explained. "By the time I got to second, I saved a pretty good bit even to get there because I knew it might go the whole way. I started pushing with 25 to go, and I just didn't have enough."

The race showcased an interesting dynamic between the two drivers' cars, with Blaney having better turning ability while Elliott demonstrated superior drive off the corners. Elliott, acknowledging Blaney's performance, wasn't surprised to see his rival in his mirror, citing Blaney's strong showing at Martinsville in the fall as evidence of his short-track prowess.

While falling just short of victory, Blaney's charge from last to second highlighted his exceptional racecraft and ability to manage his equipment throughout the demanding exhibition race.
