Alpine's executive advisor Flavio Briatore praised Colapinto as "among the best young talents in motorsport," highlighting his surprising and impressive performances as a rookie driver. The signing strengthens Alpine's pool of young drivers for future development.
The 2024 season saw Colapinto become Argentina's first F1 race driver in 23 years, generating significant interest from his home country. Despite some challenges including heavy crashes in the final five rounds, his potential both on and off track attracted multiple teams.
Colapinto expressed gratitude to Williams for their support and making his F1 dream possible, while showing enthusiasm for his new role with Alpine. The move adds pressure to Alpine's rookie Jack Doohan, who was previously confirmed for the 2025 race line-up.
Williams team principal James Vowles explained that the agreement with Alpine could provide Colapinto with better opportunities for securing a race seat in 2025 or 2026. Williams maintains a strong driver lineup with Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz, and takes pride in their Driver Academy's role in developing future F1 talent.
