Alex Payne, emerging Super DIRTcar Series driver from Hopewell, NY, enters his second full-time season with growing confidence after winning Rookie of the Year honors and his first Feature in 2024.

Competing against champions like Mat Williamson and Matt Sheppard at Land of Legends Raceway, where he finished fourth in track points, has boosted Payne's confidence in his championship potential.

"I think we're capable of competing against these guys," says Payne. "If I can start up front, make the redraw every night, and get a couple of wins, I don't think it's that big of a reach."

The 19-year-old driver demonstrated his skill at February's Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, securing second place behind Peter Britten and adding three more top 10 finishes. He continued his momentum with a fourth-place finish at Port Royal Speedway.

Looking ahead to the championship season opener at New Egypt Speedway on March 29, Payne aims to improve upon his sixth-place finish from last year. While his father Eldon will reduce his trackside presence to support his sister Kennedy's DIRTcar Sportsman division career, Payne remains focused on his championship goals.

"We work a lot on our program, and when we get to the racetrack, we just bounce a couple of ideas off each other," Payne explains. "I think me and my guys are capable of doing the same job either way."

Fans can catch the action live at New Egypt Speedway or stream it through DIRTVision's online platform and mobile app.
