Alex Albon Welcomes Sainz Challenge to Showcase His True Potential
Alex Albon believes partnering with Carlos Sainz at Williams will provide a valuable opportunity to showcase his true talent level, moving away from his previous role as the team's primary benchmark driver.
Sainz joins Williams for 2025 following Ferrari's decision to sign Lewis Hamilton, bringing experience from four victories with the Scuderia. Having been with Williams since 2022, Albon sees Sainz's arrival as a crucial reference point for his own performance evaluation.

"I like it — it's a great challenge," Albon stated. "Carlos is coming in with a lot of pedigree and has had a fantastic season against Charles. For myself, it's great to have someone I can directly compare against, as it's always been a bit of a burden feeling like no one really knows where I stand."
Albon acknowledges that Sainz's recent Ferrari experience will be particularly valuable for Williams' development in 2025 and '26. "What he brings to Williams is going to be really important to us," Albon explained, highlighting the significance of Sainz's experience with a top-performing team.
The Thai driver emphasizes his openness to learn from his new teammate, particularly regarding car development and team direction. Despite his three years of experience with Williams, Albon welcomes the fresh perspective Sainz will bring to the team's technical development and overall progression.
