
2024 Fonda Speedway Season Recap: Alex Yankowski Makes History as Youngest Modified Champion
The "Track of Champions" Fonda Speedway completed its 73rd season in 2024, marking another historic year of racing competition at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds facility.

Amsterdam Truck Center Modifieds featured 16 events with eight different winners. Stewart Friesen dominated with six victories, while Alex Yankowski made history as the youngest Modified Track Champion at age 20 without a feature win.
In the Swagger Factory Apparel Crate 602 Sportsman division, Payton Talbot secured his third consecutive Track Championship with five wins out of 14 events. Seven different drivers claimed victories throughout the season.
Kenny Gates dominated the Leatherstocking Credit Union Pro Stock division with six wins, earning his eighth Track Championship. He now sits at 98 career wins, just two shy of the century mark.
The Montgomery County Office for Aging Inc. Limited Sportsman saw AJ Greco capture his first Track Championship with five wins in 13 events. Eight different drivers visited victory lane during the season.
In the Fonda Fair Four Cylinders, Ken Hollenback (SOHC) and Jay Ingersoll (DOHC) claimed their respective class championships. Hollenback achieved his 100th career win and finished the season with 104 total victories.
Special events included Rocky Warner winning the Bill Ag Memorial Match Races, Demetrios Drellos taking the Late Model event, and Danny Varin claiming his fifth Earl Halaquist Memorial in the Empire Super Sprints.
The 74th season will begin with the Season Kickoff Racecar Show at ViaPort Rotterdam (March 21-23, 2025), followed by Open Practice on April 12 and the season opener on April 19. The track features an all-new clay surface for the 2025 campaign.
Fonda Speedway operates weekly on Saturday nights from April through August at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, accessible via New York State Thruway Exit 28.
