William Byron Makes History with Back-to-Back Daytona 500 Victories
William Byron secured a historic back-to-back Daytona 500 victory, becoming the first driver since Denny Hamlin (2019-2020) to achieve consecutive wins in NASCAR's premier event. The dramatic victory came after navigating through a chaotic last-lap wreck on the backstretch at Daytona International Speedway.

NASCAR racers compete at Daytona
Byron crossed the finish line 0.113 seconds ahead of Tyler Reddick in overtime, capitalizing on a collision between Cole Custer and three-time winner Denny Hamlin at the front of the field. The win marks Byron's third victory at the 2.5-mile superspeedway and his 14th career triumph.
The race featured intense competition with 56 lead changes among 15 drivers. Team Penske drivers dominated much of the event, with Austin Cindric leading a race-high 59 laps. The team collectively led 125 of the 202 laps.
Notable finishers included:
- Tyler Reddick (2nd)
- Jimmie Johnson (3rd)
- Chase Briscoe (4th)
- John Hunter Nemechek (5th)
The event was marked by multiple interruptions, including a presidential visit and a rain delay lasting over three hours. Several significant crashes impacted the race, including a dramatic incident involving Ryan Preece, who fortunately walked away after his car became airborne.
Byron's victory demonstrates both his growing dominance at Daytona and his team's preparation, as he plans to build on this momentum throughout the 2025 season. The race featured eight cautions for 47 laps, with Byron leading five times for a total of 10 laps.
