WEC Prologue: Kubica and Ferrari AF Corse Top Opening Session in Qatar
Former Formula 1 racer Robert Kubica led the first session of the FIA World Endurance Championship Prologue test at Qatar's Losail International Circuit, posting a best time of 1m41.673s in the No. 83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P.
Will Stevens finished second in the No. 12 Cadillac Hertz Team Jota V-Series R, three-tenths behind Kubica. The top six cars were separated by just over a second, including all three Ferraris, both Cadillacs, and the No. 15 BMW driven by Dries Vanthoor.
Notable performance changes include:
- Lap times approximately two seconds slower than 2024's pole position due to new gravel traps
- Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyries completed over 100 laps across both cars in their debut
- Cadillac Hertz Team Jota impressed with second and sixth positions

The session saw several interruptions:
- Red flags for Vista AF Corse and Iron Lynx AMG GT3 gravel incidents
- Penske Porsche stoppage at Turn 6
- Significant fire damage to the No. 77 Ford Mustang, likely preventing participation in the second session
In LM GT3, Ben Barnicoat topped the class in the No. 78 Akkodis ASP Lexus with 1m55.862s, followed by Dani Juncadella's Corvette and Davide Rigon's Ferrari.
