A comprehensive six-month test of the Volkswagen ID7 begins with the high-performance GTX fastback model, followed by three months with the single-motor estate version.

The GTX variant delivers 340hp from its dual-motor setup, achieving 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds. Its 86kWh battery promises a claimed range of 366 miles, making it a potential leader in long-distance electric travel.

Our test car comes in Scale Silver Metallic with a black contrast roof, riding on optional 21-inch alloy wheels (£620 upgrade).

Interior highlights include heated and ventilated GTX sports seats with massage function, heated rear seats, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. The 15.0-inch touchscreen serves as the primary control center.

Total price: £64,970, positioning it alongside the Polestar 4 and Audi A6 e-tron. The upcoming single-motor Tourer variant will be approximately £8,000 less expensive.
