The Maserati MSG driver had originally qualified third, making it an all-Maserati second row alongside teammate Jake Hughes after being defeated by Oliver Rowland in the semifinals.
The grid penalties have resulted in several position changes:
- Jake Hughes moves up to third
- Antonio Felix da Costa advances to fourth
- Edoardo Mortara takes fifth
- Friday's winner Maximilian Guenther starts sixth
- Sam Bird will begin from seventh
- Nyck de Vries moves up to eighth
Vandoorne will start 22nd, behind Nico Mueller who received a three-place penalty for causing a collision with da Costa in Friday's race.
