UK Police Seize Illegal Tesla Cybertruck: Registration and Safety Concerns Surface
Police seized a Tesla Cybertruck near Manchester after discovering it wasn't road legal in the UK and had registration and insurance issues. The vehicle, driven by a permanent UK resident, was registered and insured overseas - which is prohibited under UK law.
The Cybertruck lacks a certificate of conformity, a crucial document that verifies compliance with UK safety standards, emissions regulations, and size/mass requirements. Police seized the vehicle under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.

Recovery of the vehicle will be challenging for the owner, as they must prove both ownership and proper insurance - something Greater Manchester Police noted would be difficult given the circumstances. The police expressed particular concern about safety risks to pedestrians and other road users in the event of a collision.

Some UK enthusiasts are attempting to make the Cybertruck road legal. YouTuber Yiannimize has modified his Cybertruck by:
- Adding orange indicators
- Removing US-required orange side markers
- Installing rubber strips to cover sharp edges

However, significant challenges remain, particularly regarding pedestrian safety concerns due to the vehicle's rigid stainless steel body and angular front end. Until these issues are resolved, UK residents should consider alternative electric vehicles that meet local road regulations.
