The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli announces the GT1 Challenge, a new racing class for the 2025 season designed to bridge SCCA Club Racing's GT1 competitors with professional racing opportunities.

The GT1 Challenge offers a flexible format where drivers can:
- Compete in up to 9 races per season
- Count their 5 best results toward championship points
- Use older equipment no longer eligible for TA National Championship
- Race tube-frame vehicles with silhouette bodies from 1982 or later
- Maintain rookie status for future TA class competition
Vehicle eligibility includes:
- SCCA Club Racing GT1 class legal cars
- Current TA class cars prepared to SCCA Club GT1 rules
- Reduced modifications required from SCCA Club GT1 setups
Technical Director Aaron Coalwell explains that the GT1 Challenge addresses the performance gap between current TA cars and older GT1 vehicles by adopting SCCA GT1 class rules and weights. This allows teams to compete without making setup changes when transitioning from SCCA to Trans Am racing.
Trans Am President Andy Lally emphasizes this initiative creates an exciting opportunity for GT1 competitors to participate in professional racing while delivering thrilling V8 action for fans.
The 2025 season begins February 20-23 at the Sebring SpeedTour, Sebring International Raceway. Interested competitors can contact [email protected] for more information.
