Big Diamond Speedway's Rookie 602 Crate Sportsman Division has proven to be a successful stepping stone for aspiring dirt Modified racers since its 2023 introduction. The division serves as a nurturing ground for young talent, allowing them to develop at their own pace before advancing to higher levels.

Race Director Kasea Bauscher implemented this innovative program to address the decreasing age of drivers entering big car racing. Unlike traditional formats, the rookie class enables drivers to progress naturally, only requiring advancement after achieving four wins.

Key Features of the Program:

• 15-lap feature races (no heats)
• No points tracking
• Random draw for starting positions
• Previous winners start at rear
• Dedicated practice sessions
• Structured progression system

The division has already achieved notable milestones, including historic achievements by female racers. In 2023, Danica Getz became the first female to win a Modified feature at Big Diamond, leading an all-female podium with Brittany Edgar and McKenzi Smith.

Sponsored by Big Creek Concrete of Kunkletown, the program has received positive feedback from parents, car owners, and drivers. The controlled environment allows newcomers to develop their skills alongside peers rather than immediately competing against veterans.

• Pit gates open: 5:00 pm
• Grandstands open: 5:30 pm
• Hot laps: 7:15 pm
• Pit admission: $35 (members), $45 (non-members)
• General admission: $20 (adults), Free (16 and under)

Additional Event: April 11 (7:15 pm) - Money in the Mountains/Fritz Roehrig Memorial/Dunken's Enterprise Night featuring multiple divisions and prizes.
