Ron Capps's third year as a team owner has brought unprecedented challenges after his initial success in the NHRA Funny Car championships. Despite early triumphs, including winning championships in 2022, the realities of team ownership are now setting in.

The transition hasn't been without support. Racing legends Don Schumacher, John Force, Rick Hendrick, Don Prudhomme, and Jeff Gordon have offered guidance throughout Capps's ownership journey.

Crew chief Dean 'Guido' Antonelli made strategic decisions to overhaul their setup in pursuit of staying ahead of competition. While this led to early-season struggles, the team finally found its rhythm by late July in Sonoma.

Key challenges in 2024:

  • No wins despite reaching six final rounds in 19 races
  • Currently third in championship standings
  • Risk of first winless season since 2008
  • Technical adjustments affecting performance

Despite the struggles, Capps maintains strong partnerships, particularly with NAPA. The team aims to finish strong at Pomona, with goals to outqualify Jack Beckman for second place in the standings and secure their first win of the season.

The veteran driver reflects that while the ownership experience has been trying, particularly in 2024, it's been a valuable learning experience. The support from racing legends and strong commercial partnerships has helped navigate the challenges of team ownership.
