Norris Secures Sprint Pole After Thrilling Lap at High-Speed Lusail
Lando Norris secured Sprint pole position at the Qatar Grand Prix's Lusail circuit, describing the experience as "hanging on" during his qualifying lap on the high-speed track.
The McLaren driver clinched pole with his first flying lap in SQ3, acknowledging that mistakes on his second attempt prevented an improvement. "It's tough because it's so quick around here," Norris explained. "It feels like the quickest circuit of the year, and the final sector just feels like you're hanging on."

Wind conditions played a significant role in the session, with gusts making car control particularly challenging. However, Norris noted that track conditions were superior compared to last season, resulting in faster but more physically demanding driving. Most cars approached flat-out speeds in the final sector's corners, showcasing the track's intense nature.
McLaren demonstrated strong pace throughout qualifying, with teammate Oscar Piastri securing third place behind George Russell. The team aims for a one-two finish in Saturday's Sprint race as they pursue the constructors' championship.
"Our target is one-two," Norris stated. "Mercedes will be quick, Ferrari will be fast, so we're not expecting an easy one. Probably expecting an exciting one for everyone watching."
The Sprint race promises intense competition, with McLaren positioned strongly against their closest rivals Mercedes and Ferrari.
