
New Volvo ES90 Debuts: A Radical Electric Hybrid of Saloon, SUV and Hatchback
The Volvo ES90 combines elements of a saloon, SUV, and hatchback into a unique electric vehicle offering up to 435 miles of range. Expected to launch at around £70,000, it directly competes with the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE.

Designed with Volvo's "machined from solid" philosophy, the ES90 features distinctive styling elements including LED headlights, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, and C-shaped taillights. Its elevated stance accommodates the electric powertrain while creating a unique market position.

Inside, the ES90 offers a cocooned feel with a minimalist dashboard dominated by a 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen. The interior uses eco-friendly materials, including fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles.

Three powertrain options are available:
- Single Motor: 333hp, rear-wheel drive, 92kWh battery, 404-mile range
- Twin Motor: All-wheel drive, 106kWh battery, 435-mile range
- Twin Motor Performance: 680hp, all-wheel drive, 106kWh battery, 435-mile range, 0-60mph in 4.0 seconds

Orders open in March 2025, with UK deliveries starting in early 2026. The ES90's range surpasses key competitors, with the Twin Motor variants offering 60 miles more range than the BMW i5.
