NASCAR Updates Rule Book with Detailed Manufacturer Penalty Guidelines
NASCAR has added new penalties for manufacturers in its rule book, specifically addressing rules violations and race manipulation. The update comes after controversial events at Martinsville Speedway involving Chevrolet and Toyota drivers.
Section 10.5.2.8, titled "OEM penalties," outlines specific consequences for manufacturer violations:
- Points deductions: 25 to 50 points
- Wind tunnel testing reduction: 30 to 60 hours
- RCFD test runs reduction: 250 to 500 runs
- Vehicle testing reduction: 2 to 4 tests

The rules also reference Section 5.5, which prohibits any attempts to improperly influence race outcomes. This includes intentional planning or conduct that prioritizes objectives other than achieving the best possible competitive result for their team.
NASCAR emphasizes that these examples are illustrative rather than exhaustive, giving the sanctioning body flexibility in addressing future violations. The penalties can be applied to both manufacturers and their representatives, marking a significant expansion of NASCAR's enforcement capabilities.
This rule update represents NASCAR's first formal framework for manufacturer penalties, strengthening its ability to maintain competitive integrity in the sport.
