McLaren Racing has confirmed that its potential entry into top-level sports car racing won't impact its existing motorsport programs. The team is exploring opportunities in the FIA World Endurance Championship's Hypercar class and IMSA's GTP category while maintaining its current Formula 1, IndyCar, and Formula E commitments.

The potential sports car program would likely be operated through McLaren Automotive, a separate entity from McLaren Racing, with support from United Autosports and an external OEM. This structure would minimize resource impact on existing racing operations.

McLaren's racing statement emphasized their commitment to current programs while acknowledging ongoing evaluation of new opportunities: "We evaluate all potential opportunities and whether they would require any adjustment to our existing obligations, but our commitment remains to delivering performance and success across all race series in which we currently compete."

The brand has a strong history in sports car racing, including victories in the 1995 and 1996 BPR Global GT series with the McLaren F1 GTR, plus an overall win at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. They were also a dominant force in Can-Am racing during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Currently, McLaren's Formula E team, running as a Nissan customer, holds second place in the teams' championship following strong performances in the GEN3 Evo era's opening round at Sao Paulo, where they secured third and fourth place finishes.
