Charles Leclerc faces a 10-place grid penalty at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix due to exceeding his maximum permitted power unit components, dealing a significant blow to Ferrari's constructors' championship hopes.

The penalty comes after Ferrari was forced to change Leclerc's energy store during FP1 due to technical issues. This marks the first time Leclerc has exceeded his component allocation this season.

Ferrari currently trails McLaren by 21 points in the constructors' championship, with 44 points still available in the final race. Despite Leclerc's strong second-place finish in Qatar last weekend that had narrowed the gap, this penalty significantly complicates Ferrari's championship aspirations.

Despite the setback, Leclerc managed to set the fastest time in FP1 at Yas Marina Circuit, where he shared the track with his brother Arthur, who finished 18th.

Additionally, Williams drivers Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto will each receive five-place grid penalties for exceeding their gearbox component allocations.
