Kyle Chaney made history at the 2025 King of the Hammers by securing the first-ever UTV-based vehicle overall victory in the prestigious "Race of Kings" event. Driving a Can-Am based UTV, Chaney outperformed vehicles with significantly more horsepower and higher price tags.

The race unfolded in three distinct phases, with former winner Loren Healy leading early in his factory Ford Bronco before experiencing drivetrain issues. Defending champion JP Gomez took control during the second lap, while Jason Scherer and Casey Currie remained competitive.

The decisive third "Mystery Lap" introduced new, previously unknown rock trails. The battle intensified between Josh Blyler and Gomez until mechanical issues struck both drivers. This opened the door for Chaney and Cody Miller, though Miller's chassis later failed catastrophically.

Chaney ultimately crossed the finish line first, with Gomez finishing second 30 minutes later. Brian Caprera, Robby Gordon (sharing driving duties with son Max), and Cody Addington completed the top five. Only 27 of 97 starters completed the challenging course.

Other notable achievements during the week included:

  • Brad Lovell's surprise victory in Friday's Every Man Challenge race, piloting a Ford Bronco in the 4600 Stock class
  • Brock Heger's dominant performance in Thursday's Can-Am UTV Championship, finishing as the only driver under four hours
  • Class victories for Casey Currie (Pro Stock Turbo UTV), Jeremy McGrath (Pro Stock NA UTV), Cody Miller (Pro Mod UTV), Jonathan Nelson (Sportsman Stock UTV), and Cameron Sorensen (Futures Youth 1000 UTV)

The 2025 event showcased the evolution of off-road racing, with UTVs proving they can compete alongside traditional high-powered race vehicles in even the most demanding conditions.
