The race marks Kahne's first NASCAR appearance since 2018, when health issues forced his early retirement. The eight-time Xfinity Series winner will participate in a pre-race test at Rockingham on January 28, preparing for NASCAR's first national series race at the track since 2013.
"I'm excited to get back behind the wheel, especially at Rockingham Speedway," said Kahne, who won the 2012 Truck Series race during NASCAR's last visit to the track. "I'm very appreciative of the opportunity from Mr. Hendrick, Richard Childress, and everyone at RCR."
Kahne, named one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023, boasts 31 victories across all three national series, including prestigious wins at the Coca-Cola 600 and Brickyard 400. His return adds excitement to NASCAR's historic return to Rockingham Speedway.
Richard Childress expressed confidence in Kahne's competitiveness, while Rick Hendrick emphasized the significance of Kahne's return at such a historic track. The April race weekend will feature both Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series events.
