Justin Haley is experiencing a significant transformation in his NASCAR Cup Series career through a new partnership with veteran crew chief Rodney Childers at Spire Motorsports. Despite having nearly 150 Cup Series starts, Haley is undergoing extensive modifications to enhance his racing experience.

Childers discovered that Haley's previous car setup needed substantial improvements. The team has implemented comprehensive changes, including:

  • New custom-fitted seats from Hendrick
  • Relocated belt positions
  • New seat rails and headrests
  • Modified floorboard and pedal faces
  • Redesigned steering column mounts

The focus on driver comfort and safety stems from Childers' 11-year experience at Stewart-Haas Racing, where he and Kevin Harvick secured 37 wins and the 2014 championship. Haley acknowledges the eye-opening experience of working with Childers and car chief Robert 'Cheddar' Smith, noting their meticulous attention to detail.

After racing with Kaulig Racing (2022-2023) and Rick Ware Racing (most of 2024), Haley has returned to Spire Motorsports, where he previously secured the team's first victory at Daytona in 2019. The partnership with Childers began immediately after the 2024 season finale.

The team's expectations have evolved to focus on wins and playoff contention. Haley feels less pressure in his new role, stating he can now concentrate solely on driving while the team handles everything else. With Spire Motorsports' increased investment in talent and resources, both driver and crew chief are optimistic about their competitive potential for the upcoming season.
