DVLA Bans Over 400 Offensive Number Plates in Latest '75' Registration Crackdown
The DVLA has banned over 400 new number plate combinations ahead of the '75' registration launch this September, bringing the total restricted plates for 2025 to 646. These restrictions target potentially offensive, discriminatory, or problematic combinations.
Notable banned combinations include:
- AU75 WTS and AU75 WTZ (resembling "Auschwitz")
- LE75 KLL ("Let's kill")
- LE75 LSD ("Let's LSD")
- EU75 OUT, EU75 WAR, EU75 YES (Brexit/EU-related)
- AS75 GAY (discriminatory content)

The DVLA also restricts "wildcard" combinations that could be interpreted as offensive, such as any plate ending in "75 HAG."
Mark Trimbee, Regtransfers CEO, explains these bans prevent offensive, inflammatory, or problematic plates from appearing on roads, with some combinations like BA75 SHT being obviously unsuitable.

Important Number Plate Regulations:
- Front plates must be white, rear plates yellow
- Must use Charles Wright font
- Specific character height, width, thickness, and spacing requirements
- Non-compliance can result in:
- Fines up to £1,000
- Failed MOT test
- Invalid car insurance
These restrictions aim to maintain appropriate standards on UK roads while preventing potentially offensive or inappropriate displays.
