Carson Macedo Overcomes Broken Leg to Win WoO Opener at Volusia
Carson Macedo overcame a recent leg injury to secure victory in the opening race of the 2025 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car season at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, FL.

Carson Macedo celebrates with victory trophy
Despite being hospitalized with a broken leg less than two months ago, Macedo showcased remarkable resilience in his Albaugh No. 41 car, leading all 25 laps to claim the win. The injury had forced him to skip racing in Australia and focus on recovery, but he proved his championship readiness with a commanding performance.
The Lemoore, CA native held off defending World of Outlaws champion David Gravel and former NASCAR Cup champion Kyle Larson to secure his 48th career Series victory. Though still experiencing some discomfort, particularly during red flags, Macedo managed the race effectively, only showing signs of his injury through a slight limp during victory celebrations.
Key Race Highlights:
- David Gravel finished second, advancing from sixth position
- Kyle Larson moved from 10th to secure third place
- Logan Schuchart and Brad Sweet completed the top five
- Donny Schatz earned the KSE Racing Hard Charger award, improving from 21st to 8th
The victory marks Macedo's third Series triumph at Volusia Speedway Park and his fifth overall win at the track. This performance serves as a strong statement for Macedo and the Jason Johnson Racing team as they pursue the World of Outlaws championship after finishing second in points last season.
The complete feature results include 27 drivers, with Macedo leading the field from the pole position to secure the first race of the 2025 season.
