Briscoe's Move to Joe Gibbs Racing Brings New Team, New Health Focus
Chase Briscoe's transition to Joe Gibbs Racing has sparked significant lifestyle changes, particularly in his approach to health and fitness, under the guidance of crew chief James Small.
The shift became apparent during their first lunch meeting, where Small's healthy choice contrasted sharply with Briscoe's fried food preference. Small made it clear that changes were necessary.

"I don't ever eat fruits or vegetables. I eat all fried food, and I don't work out," Briscoe admitted to Small, who emphasized the importance of being "100% in the race car at all times."
To ensure accountability, Small's wife, Kat Sims, became Briscoe's trainer and nutritionist. This arrangement has proven effective, as Briscoe explained, "It holds me way more accountable because if I don't do it, he instantly knows."
The results are already showing. Briscoe lost nearly 10 pounds in the first few weeks, though he acknowledges there's still room for improvement. "I'd be lying if I said I was perfect at it. I could do way, way better."
The partnership is already yielding success on the track. Briscoe and Small secured the pole position for the Daytona 500 - a first for both of them, for Toyota, and Joe Gibbs Racing's first since 1998.
