"The hard work over the winter is paying off," said van der Linde. "Though it's only the Roar and there's sandbagging, it's a good start. With new engineers bringing knowledge from other cars, we expect to be stronger this year."
Porsches claimed third and fourth, with Jaminet's No. 6 (1m36.9s) and Tandy's No. 7 963 (1m37.1s). Jordan Taylor's No. 40 WTR Cadillac rounded out the top five with 1m37.237s.
In LMP2, Inter Europol's Tom Dillmann led with 1m40.272s, barely edging out AO Racing's Dane Cameron (1m40.279s). The session saw its first major incident when Dan Goldburg's No. 22 United Autosports car hit the tire wall at Le Mans Chicane, causing minor damage.
