
Birmingham Airport introduces barrier-free parking system with 24-hour payment window
Birmingham Airport (BHX) is implementing a new barrier-free parking system from March 18, 2025, using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

Key Changes:
- All barriers will be removed
- Drivers must pay within 24 hours of leaving the car park
- Payment options include:
- Autopay (automatic deduction after exit)
- Post-payment from home
- On-site payment machines
Current Premium Drop Down Prices:
- 0-15 minutes: £6
- 15-20 minutes: £11
- 20-25 minutes: £17
The new system aims to:
- Simplify passenger drop-offs
- Enhance vehicular access
- Reduce waiting times
- Lower carbon emissions
- Improve air quality
This initiative supports Birmingham Airport's goal to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2033. Additional information about the project and Autopay registration will be announced soon.
"The new barrier-free system will simplify passenger drop-offs, enhance vehicular surface access by offering a smoother and faster experience," says Nikki Bains, head of Planning, Transport and Strategy at Birmingham Airport.
Note: Drivers must remember to pay their parking fees within 24 hours of departure to avoid penalties.
