While Aston Martin led the pack in the number of updates implemented during 2024, these modifications didn't translate into improved lap times. Cowell, who recently assumed the team principal role from Mike Krack, acknowledges that the disconnect between simulation and real-world performance needs addressing.
The team's ambitious goal is to achieve a 90% success rate when implementing updates on the track, matching the standards set by championship-winning teams. While Cowell notes that a 20% success rate is considered high in R&D environments, he emphasizes that experimentation should occur at the AMR Technology Campus rather than during races.
